CenCal Health Board of Directors Mourns Passing of SLO County Supervisor Adam Hill
3rd District Supervisor Served as Board Member of Local Medi-Cal Health Plan from 2014-2018

SANTA BARBARA, Calif – August 10, 2020 – It is with great sadness that the CenCal Health Board of Directors recognizes the death of former board member Adam Hill, San Luis Obispo County Supervisor from the 3rd District.

CenCal Health Chairman of the Board Dr. Rene Bravo issued the following statement on Hill’s passing. “I’ve known and worked with Adam Hill for a number of years in different capacities. I’ve always found him to be dedicated to the betterment of the community, no matter what the issue. As a CenCal Health board member, Adam was engaged, enthusiastic and committed to ensuring that low-income residents of San Luis Obispo County had access to top quality medical care. He will be missed.”

Supervisor Hill served as a CenCal Health board member from 2014 until 2018. During that time, CenCal Health saw tremendous growth due to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and launch of Covered California, which provided another avenue for people to apply for Medi-Cal. Hill is remembered as a vocal advocate for San Luis Obispo County members.

A resident of San Luis Obispo County since 1995, Adam Hill taught literature and writing at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) for 13 years before being elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2008, and subsequently for a second term in 2012. While Supervisor, Hill co-chaired the first county-wide public-private Economic Development Project, and served as the founding chair of the San Luis Obispo County Homeless Services Oversight Council. In addition to serving on the CenCal Health Board, Hill also served  as a board member on the Economic Vitality Corporation, the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments, the San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority, the San Luis Obispo Integrated Waste Management Authority, and the San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District.

CenCal Health CEO Bob Freeman added to the board statement, “A special quality of the CenCal Health Board of Directors has been board members’ interest and commitment to working together to improve the health and well-being of residents of the Central Coast. Supervisor Hill was a leader on the board in finding ways and means of making that happen. The quality of health care available through CenCal Health is in part a testament to his leadership. Our hearts go out to his family and friends.”
