LHPC Statement on Gov. Newsom’s 2026-27 Budget Proposal

SACRAMENTO, CA — Following the release of Governor Newsom’s proposed 2026-27 state budget, Local Health Plans of California CEO Linnea Koopmans released the following statement:

We appreciate that the Administration has preserved Medi-Cal funding to the extent possible in this budget. While the budget accounts for significant enrollment declines due to H.R. 1, the harmful effects of this federal law are only beginning to unfold. In this challenging budget environment, we urge lawmakers to pursue every available option to ensure low-income Californians maintain access to coverage and our safety net system has the resources it needs to serve our communities.
