Chief Executive Officer, CalOptima
Michael Schrader has served as the chief executive officer (CEO) of CalOptima since December 2012. He previously served for nearly 3 years as chief operating officer of Boston Medical Center HealthNet Plan (BMCHP), and, prior to his tenure at BMCHP, he served for five years as chief operating officer of CenCal Health in Santa Barbara, California, as part of a 15-year overall tenure.
Mr. Schrader helped BMCHP launch its first commercial products for sales to individuals and small employer groups through a Massachusetts exchange (Connector). He also helped BMCHP start to expand operations and eventually offer Medicaid coverage in the state of New Hampshire, following a contract award through a competitive procurement process. While at CenCal Health, Mr. Schrader led the plan’s operational expansion into San Luis Obispo County. Mr. Schrader holds a B.S. from the University of Arizona and an M.B.A from the University of California, Los Angeles.
