Chief Executive Officer, CalOptima
As Chief Executive Officer, Richard Sanchez, REHS, MPH, works collaboratively with the Board of Directors to set the agency’s strategic vision and ensure its successful implementation. He oversees all aspects of the organization and maintains positive working relationships with member, provider and community representatives as well as federal, state and county agencies.
A previous member of the CalOptima Board of Directors since March 2017, Sanchez has more than 36 years of leadership experience in public health organizations. Most recently, he was the Director of the Orange County Health Care Agency as well as the Director of Environmental Health. Before his tenure in Orange County, Sanchez served as Director of Environmental Health for the Sacramento Environmental Health Department and as Program Manager for the San Bernardino Environmental Health Department. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from UC Irvine and a Master of Public Health degree from Loma Linda University.
