Alliance Wellness, a Medicare Medi-Cal plan for qualifying dual eligible Alameda County residents will begin serving members on January 1st, 2026

Alameda, CA – Alameda Alliance for Health (Alliance), the local health plan that administers access to health services to over 415,000 Alameda County residents held a Town Hall this week ahead of the launch of the Alliance’s Medicare Advantage Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan (D-SNP). Participants included physicians, community partners and health care leaders who had the opportunity to learn more about healthcare options available to Alameda County residents who are eligible for Medicare and Medi-Cal health insurance coverage.

Proposed Medicaid Cuts Would Threaten Access to Health Care for All

Scotts Valley, Calif., February 24, 2025 — This week in Washington, D.C., the House will likely review a budget resolution that is said to include an $880 billion cut, largely coming from reductions in Medicaid spending. One-third of the state’s population depends on Medi-Cal (California’s Medicaid program) for their health care. In rural areas served by the Alliance, nearly half of the population relies on Medi-Cal. Drastic cuts to this program wouldn’t just affect Medi-Cal members—they would destabilize health care for everyone.

The Alliance will serve Medi-Cal beneficiaries in Mariposa and San Benito counties starting Jan. 1, 2024

Scotts Valley, Calif., Nov. 1, 2023 — Central California Alliance for Health (the Alliance), the Medi-Cal managed care health plan for more than 428,000 residents in Merced, Monterey and Santa Cruz counties, will soon serve the counties of Mariposa and San Benito. Effective January 1, 2024, the Alliance will be a local ally in providing trusted, no-cost Medi-Cal benefits to approximately 28,000 new Medi-Cal beneficiaries in these counties. Both counties elected to partner with the Alliance through its locally governed public health plan.

With much excitement, we are proud to announce that Sonja Bjork, Partnership’s deputy CEO/chief operating officer, has been selected to become the third CEO in Partnership’s history. Bjork will replace Elizabeth Gibboney, who is set to retire on July 1, 2023, after serving eight years as CEO. The board made the announcement to Partnership staff on Wednesday, May 3.

Local Plan Strategies for CalAIM Incentive Payment Program
Spotlight on Community-Centered Approaches

Last year, the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) launched California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal, known as CalAIM, a multi-year plan to transform the state’s Medi-Cal program. In the initial year of implementation, Medi-Cal managed care plans began providing CalAIM’s foundational services: Enhanced Care Management (ECM), a new Medi-Cal benefit focused on addressing clinical and non-clinical needs of the highest-need enrollees, and Community Supports (CS), new services focused on meeting enrollees’ social needs, including services like medically tailored meals and housing navigation.
